“Parasite” continues to make Korean cinema history.
Having already won numerous international awards including the Palm d’or, Bong Joon-ho’s latest masterpiece earns six oscar nominations including best picture, and director.
Kim Ji-yeon zooms in on how the film’s being reviewed by critics around the globe.
The Korean movie ‘Parasite’ by director Bong Joon-ho has made history as the first Korean-language film ever to be nominated for an Academy Award,… an honor traditionally given mostly to films from Europe or the United States.
The Academy Awards are chosen by members of the U.S. Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,… comprising some eight-thousand movie directors, actors and filmmakers.
‘Parasite’ has already won numerous awards and rave reviews from outside critics.
Noting that ‘Parasite’ has a 99-percent “fresh” rating from critics on Rotten Tomates,… the Los Angeles Times… reported Monday the particular reason why. ‘Parasite,’ it said, delivers an original and entertaining approach to class differences, a theme that also ran through many other competitive films.
The report cited Times critic Justin Chang as “deviously entertaining” and a “thriller of extraordinary cunning and emotional force,”… qualities that have helped propel it to win hundreds of millions of U.S. dollars at the worldwide box office.
‘Parasite’ has already been chosen as best picture by the Los Angeles Film Critics and the National Society of Film Critics.
Earlier this month, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave it a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
